Power Of Dua and Methods of Supplication

The Power of Dua in Islam & Method Of Supplicating

Power Of Dua: Dua is a great blessing and a priceless gift from Allah Almighty. No human being in this world can be exempted from dua under any circumstances. Dua is a kind of worship of Allah, dua is one of the noble attributes of the pious servants of Allah and the Prophets (peace be upon them).

Dua reduces the Allah’s anger fire. Dua is a guideline for trusting in Allah’s self, Dua is a strong means of preventing calamity. Undoubtedly, dua is the weapon of the believer in terms of its effectiveness and efficiency.

Therefore, prayer has a closer relationship with human life and has a definite history in terms of its effects, and it also has a great connection with the unseen treasures of God.

It is the nature of a humankind that when he/she is in some trouble and trial and is disappointed by all the available sources, then he hopes and prays to an unseen power which is Greater than and stronger than all the powers. He believes that all these troubles can be removed by that Great Power.

He believes that the same power will also support him and save him from all troubles. This unseen power exists with different names in different religions, even those who do not believe in any God they also believe in “nature”.

Contrary to all these, the Muslim has the firm belief that the unseen power is the only Allah Almighty. He is the One who listens to all the prayers of the helpless and relieves pain and suffering. Allah Almighty is the One who hears and answers man’s prayers.

Does God need our prayers (supplications)?

Every Muslim has a firm belief that Allah (SWT) knows our needs and wants well, and He does not need our prayers at all. He can give us without prayers as well. But the humankind should be aware of their own needs and confess their humility and weakness in the form of prayer because the Almighty loves this very much.

In the Holy Quran Allah says:

قُلْ مَا يَعْبَؤُا۟ بِكُمْ رَبِّى لَوْلَا دُعَآؤُكُمْ

Say, ˹O Prophet, ˺ “You ˹all˺ would not ˹even˺ matter to my Lord were it not for your faith ˹in Him˺ (Al-Furqan:77)

Therefore, if a man stops praying to Allah Almighty, it no matter to Allah Almighty.

Dua is a form of worship:

Dua is a form of worship
Dua is a form of worship

Where dua is a form of expression of humility before Allah by the human, dua itself is an act of servitude which is also required from human. Just as prayer, fasting, etc. are different forms of worship, in the same way, the dua is called worship. In the Holy Quran Allah Almighty says who do not supplicate from Allah are considered as arrogant.

Allah Almighty says:

Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, fully humbled.” (Al-Ghafir: 60)

From this blessed verse, it is known that supplication to God is a true worship, and turning away from it means that a person is suffering from arrogance and can’t confess his humility and servitude to his Creator.

Dua is the core of all the worships. Just as a person without a brain is useless, in the same way all good deeds are incomplete without prayers. This is why the Holy Prophet taught us the methods of supplication.

Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.) and Hazrat Ismail (A.S.) were also making supplication when they were raising the foundations of the Kaaba and completing the grand task of building the House of Allah.

The Holy Quran says:

And ˹remember˺ when Abraham raised the foundation of the House with Ishmael, ˹both praying, ˺ “Our Lord! Accept ˹this˺ from us. You are indeed the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Al-Baqarah:127)

Supplication is a quick and effective means of connecting with Allah Almighty:

The supplication is a direct and immediate meaning of connection between the man and the Allah Almighty which is effective also.

In the oly Uran asdoly nHoly Quran Allah says:

And We are closer to them than ˹their˺ jugular vein. (Qaf: 16)

So, it is proved from the verse that through dua one connects with God immediately and He also accepts the dua that is asked from Him.

Allah (SWT) likes that a person should pray in a low voice while crying:

Call upon your Lord humbly and secretly. Surely, He does not like the transgressors. (Al-A’raf)

Method of supplication:

  • The best way to pray is to raise your hands at the level of your chest with the palms facing the sky because the Qibla of Dua is the sky, with a little distance between the two hands. And after the prayer, wipe both hands on the face.
  • Begin by Praising to Allah and His Messenger, and the majesty and magnificence of Allah SWT
  • Begin to supplicate for yourself, then pray for your parents, and then pray for all Muslims.
  • Recite Durood e Pak before and after the Dua.
  • Repeat your dua three times.
  • Pray with the belief that Allah is listening to your prayers and will accept your prayers because!

 Allah Almighty says:

Who else is there that responds to the call of the one in distress when he makes du’a, and He removes evil from him, and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there any other god besides Allah? Little is that you remember!” (Quran 27:62)

  • Show Reverence, dread, supplication, and desire in your duas.
  • Acknowledge your sins and stay consistent while making dua.

We human beings are surrounded by Shayateen. We must seek protection from Allah Almighty from all these Shayateen.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) taught us supplications for a whole day to be protected from the evils. If we use to recite these supplications according to the methods prescribed by Holy Prophet (PBUH), we will be safe from evils all day and will be closer to Allah Almighty.
